Mobile Car Scratch & Paint Repairs Bolton
How to tell a polish-out mark from a paint-through gouge, and how we repair either one on your drive in Bolton.
First, test the scratch yourself

Car paint is built in layers: a thin clear coat on top, the colour beneath it, then primer, then the metal or plastic. How far a scratch reaches through those layers decides the repair, so it’s worth a quick check before you message us.
- Nail glides over it: the mark is probably in the clear coat only. Machine polishing may lift it out, and that’s often the cheapest answer.
- Nail catches, colour still visible: it has cut into the base coat. It needs filling and refinishing, not just polish.
- You can see grey, white or bare metal: it’s through to primer or beyond. Get it sealed soon, because water creeping under the edges is how paint starts to bubble.
What we can and can’t promise
We can level the damage, mix colour from the code on your car and blend the new paint into the panel so the repair sits flush. What we can’t promise is that a car which has already had a poor respray elsewhere will match perfectly, or that a panel already showing rust bubbles can be saved. We don’t repair rust, and we’ll flag it if we spot it in your pictures.
How the repair runs
- Look. We judge depth and length from your close-up and wide shot.
- Level. The groove is cleaned, keyed and filled until it’s flat with the surrounding paint.
- Colour. We spray base coat mixed to the code, adjusted if the panel has faded in the sun.
- Seal. Clear coat goes on, is cured under lamps, then polished out so the edge disappears into the panel.
Where scratches overlap other damage
A scratch with a dent behind it is quoted under dent removal in Bolton. Scrapes confined to a plastic bumper belong on the bumper repair page, and marks spread across several panels are priced as mobile bodywork repairs.
